Meet some of our horses!
Rescued June 2011: Seized from a property in Cochise County, Arizona was emaciated except for her belly. Hotshot was born 9-11-11. She was given plenty of time to raise her colt and recover before tackling ground school. Arizona has been a challenge but is making fantastic progress. She is riding well and shows willingness and athleticism. Arizona has even done some small jumps just for fun!
Arrived September 2011: Badger lost his job at a guest ranch because he has a knot on his knee. X-rays confirm that he was kicked in the knee and has a bone chip. Badger is a great companion for a buddy. He’s an easy keeper. He was born in 2000.
Blacky - Companion
Rescued July 2016 - Blacky is the sweetest old guy! He has soft eyes and a beautiful nicker. He gets along great with pasture pals and is easy to handle. This guy has always had a great family but his owner is too ill to care for him now. Blacky was born in 1985 so he is well into his retirement years.
Boomer - Companion
Rescued January 2014: Boomer arrived from the Buffalo Corral at Fort Huachuca lame and in pain. Boomer shuffled about gradually moving better and better as his range of motion improved in the shoulder. Born about 1992, Boomer can walk and trot easily. He can maneuver all over the mountain pasture and is an easy keeper but is not able to be ridden.
Brightheart - Companion
Rescued June 2017: Born in 1985, this gentle soul was left without food, water, shade, or love. Scored at a -1 upon arrival Brighty's outlook was grim. However, against all odds this handsome horse continues to improve and is loving life out in pasture. Brightheart is retired.
Arrived May 2018: Babe was ridden as a youngster but then was a broodmare for all of her adult life. This beautiful dappled palomino paint mare is stunning. She is full of energy and life. Babe was born in 1996.
Rescue March 2017: This delightful young gelding is friendly and smart. He has been handled a little and is showing great promise. Soon it will be his turn to go to school. I am sure he will "go to the head of the class."
Chester arrived with the Sonoita Creek herd.

Rescued June 30, 2011: Seized from a property in Cochise County this gelding seemed afraid of this own shadow. He is very willing and has made great strides in the round pen and with ground work. He has been quick to "join up" and has gained confidence and is no longer so skittish. Chicken still needs some miles under saddle. His dental exam indicated he was born in 2009.
Rescued July 2018: Chili was reliquished to us after Livestock and Animal Control found her in horrendous condition (Body Score of 1). Chili is progressing by leaps and bounds in ground school class. . According to a dental exam Chiltepin was born in 2008.
Chi Wi - Companion
Rescued February 2016: This handsome
gelding was doted on by his owner until his
death a few years ago. Chi Wi has a “bench knee” so he is no longer rideable but does love to give children a carousel ride now and again. He is very mobile in a large pasture and bonds great with his pasture mates. Chi Wi will melt your heart at first sight.
Chocolate Drop - 3rd Birthday - July 2014
Born July 2011: Chocolate Drop was born here at the rescue. He is a handsome Mammoth Jack. Chocolate Drop is full of character and serves as our mascot. Come meet him at one of our events.
Rescued December 2018: This gorgeous grulla gelding is currently being evaluated. He was born in 2003.
Rescued July 2018: Dreamcatcher was relinquished to us after Livestock and Animal Control found her in horrendous condition (Body Score of 2). This mare is full of character and is progressing well with her training. According to a dental exam Dreamcatcher was born in 2005.
Ellie - Companion
Rescued in the fall of 2009 through Care for the Horses: Retired from the Grand Canyon, Ellie is a pack mule. She is a very sweet mule and will make a wonderful companion. Ellie was born about 2000.
Rescued October 2015: Foxy was just a colt when he and his mama found their way to the rescue. He's healthy and built strong. He was born in 2015.

Arrived September 2011: Forrest is working on some hoof and leg issues resulting from a high fever when he was a yearling. This tall, young big hearted, red head is making progress. Time will tell if he will become rideable again. Forrest was born in 2005.
Rescued November 2018: This beautiful golden palamino gelding is currently being evaluated. He was born in 2007.
Henny Penny - Companion
Rescued July 2010: Penny is a sweet mare who was born with a club foot. She loves pasture life and being in the herd. She moves like the wind and is very playful.
Born September 2011: Hotshot was born here at the rescue. He's wiating for his turn to go to training. Hotshot is a fabulous prospect.
Igi (I Got Invited)
Arrived May 2015: Registered with the American Quarter Horse Association as I Got Invited (GI), this handsome gelding was in need of a new life. He is recovering from an old neck injury. He is friendly and confident and addicted to carrots. IGi was born May 24, 1998.
Arrived June 2010: This little boy grew to be a big horse. Jasper has been ridden on the trail and around cattle. He is very respectful on the ground but expresses his love for life with an occasional buck. He requires a confident rider that is willing to sadddle up 3 or 4 times a week. Jasper was born in 2004.
Rescue March 2017: Joy is a real beauty. She is small and shy but doing well on the mountain pasture. She has not been handled yet but we look forward to getting her in our training class soon. Joy arrived with the Sonoita Creek Herd.
Kota & Jax
Rescued March 2017: Kota was one of the "Sonoita Creed Herd." This beautiful mare had a beautiful healthy filly named Jax on 6-10-17. She arrived having never been handled and is making great strides in ground school.
Rescue March 2017: Lily was one of the "Sonoita Creek Horses" that was picked up by Arizona Livestock Officers. She is very calm minded and we look forward to seeing her in ground school soon.
Maddie & Razzle
Rescued March 2017: Maddie was one of the "Sonoita Creed Herd." Maddie seems to love people but puts motherhood above all else. She arrived with a black filly (Magic) nursing and was clearly pregnant again. This beautiful pony had a gorgeous healthy filly named Razzle in July.

Magnificent - Companion
Rescued August 2010: Starved and emaciated this mare came to us in sad shape. Her recovery has been fabulous. Maggie is very sweet and will take care of a young rider. Maggie was adopted and served as a lesson horse for small children for three years. She was returned to the rescue when the stable went up for sale. Maggie is now enjoying retirement but could still lead small children around. According to her teeth Maggie was born in 1990.
Arrived July 2015: This smart boy arrived as a stallion but is now a gelding. He is strong and healthy and very athletic. He was started under saddle but then turned out to grow some more. We look forward to continuing his training soon. He was born in 2011.
Rescued in the fall of 2009, through Care for the Horses: Midnight, a henny, is a retired pack mule from the Grand Canyon. He is easy to handle on the trail. A henny is a crossbreed born from a mating of a stallion (male horse) and a jenny (female donkey).
Misty - Companion
Rescued September 2015; This beautiful stocky mare is a
dream on the trail. Her calm demeanor and gentle spirit
are perfect for an inexperienced rider. We have had her on
the trails and working some cattle. However, her status has changed to companion as some arthritis is developing in her knees. According to her dental exam she was born in 1995.
Mr. Wrinkles - Companion
Rescued July 2017: Such a gentleman... He has the demeanor of a proud old man. Mr. Wrinkles found his "happy place" here complete with a girlfriend. Mr. Wrinkles came with his buddy Lulu (donkey) and 2 sheep. He was born "a long time ago."
Peaches - Companion
Arrived April 2011: Peaches is a quarter horse mare that came from a caring family. They bought her at action for the kids. Peaches is as playful as she is gentle. She is not spooky and can do it all. She's very steady on the trail and can walk across a mattress on the ground. Peaches arrived with a shoulder injury that healed and she was sound for several years. Her injury has flared and so her rideability is limited. She is primarily a companion. Peaches was born in about 2001.
Rocky - Companion
Arrived April 2015: Rocky is an independant gelding with a stiff neck. We are working to restore his range of motion lost after an old roping injury. Rocky was born in 1999.
Rescued April 2008: Sierra came to us as a 6 year old. This quarter horse mare had lives her whole life in a small paddock and consequently her muscles were under developed. She had tremendous jaw and neck pain and understandably a bad attitude. Now, Sierra is one of the first to greet you in the pasture. She is strong, healthy, happy, and well behaved.
Sonoita & Leggs
Rescued March 2017: A member of our "Sonoita Creek Herd" this stocky mare gave birth to a handsome colt 3 weeks after arriving. She has clearly been handled before. We are working to see how much she knows.

Rescued March 2017: Sunshine is one of the "Sonoita Creek Horses. She is drop dead gorgeous but will need to go through our training program.
Rescued July 2018: Sundance was relinquished to us after Livestock and Animal Control found her in horrendous condition (Body Score of 1). Sundance is making a fabulous recovery and is gentle and smart. She is currently in ground school. According to a dental exam Sundance was born in 2000.
Thelma & Louise
Rescued November 2015: After being sold to an outfitter in Northern Arizona, this beautiful team was mistreated and neglected for a year. The previous owners found their beloved girls grossly underweight, poorly shod, barefoot and overgrown, and severely depressed. After confiscating them, the previous owners brought them back to health before donating them to the rescue. Thelma & Louise are once again happy and healthy from nose to tail. They have a forever home with us. You may see them in a few parades each year but for the most part, they will be enjoying a pampered pasture life. 2002/2006

Rescued July 2018: Tic Tac was relinquished to us after Livestock and Animal Control found in in a horrendous circumstance. He has incredible blue eyes. Tic Tac has become very gentle since arriving. He is out in pasture eating and growing. Tic Tac was born approximately 1/2017.
